If you’ve booked one of our Tanzania safaris or Zanzibar holidays, you’ll need to apply for a Tanzania visa before entering the country.
You can apply online in advance or get your visa on arrival at the airport in Tanzania. For on-the-spot applications, we recommend carrying U.S. dollars in cash to make payment easy and smooth.

⚠️ Note: Since January 2, 2020, Tanzania visas can no longer be obtained at embassies. All applications must be made online or on arrival in Tanzania.
Apply for a Visa on Arrival in Tanzania
If you choose to apply at the airport, you’ll find a dedicated visa department. The process involves three steps:
Government Control Number – Request and receive your control number.
Payment Counter – Pay your visa fee (usually in USD) and get a receipt.
Visa Issuance Counter – Submit your documents and receive your visa.
💡 Tip: The process duration depends on airport traffic.
Quick travelers can finish in 20–30 minutes.
During high season, it may take up to an hour.
To save time, keep a pen handy and head straight to the visa counters after landing.
Important Travel Requirements
Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your return date.
Children traveling with one parent must carry a signed consent letter in English from the other parent authorizing the trip.
